Racism and NY restaurant week.
One of the online stories I have been following lately. Basically, this NYC asian food blogger goes to a popular restaurant(Oceana which is a popular seafood restaurant in NYC) during the NY restaurant week and find herself with only asian diners in the backroom while other diners(mostly white) dined in the front room where it's nicer. The manager of the restaurant writes a letter to popular food websites such as Eater.com to defend himself. What do you think? Do you think the restaurant is racist or are asians over acting?

Chit, ever since 2008, I've noticed a biase towards asians. It might have been my actions that caused it.. I had the CEO of NBC on Baltimore radio calling me the American Nightmare. wtf.. Americans are ******* bigots. Like that CNBC girl... wtf is her name. Erin Burnett calling Obama a Ni**er on air.

something like this happened to me once but think it had more to do with me being by myself. the back room had tables of 2 ppl only and there were other non-asian ppl in this room....

I stopped expecting a long time ago to receive equal treatment as whites or believing they act colorblind. It's one of the biggest fallacies in this country that you grow up and read that line of BS they teach you in grade school in the constitution that all men and women are created equal and everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of life liberty and happiness . As far as this blogger, for sure. Look at the picture. She should have taken a picture of the other room to prove her point, but that's not statistically insignificant or pure coincidence.

The wait staff made a conscientious effort to segregate all of the Asian diners from the rest of the (main) dining area. Furthermore, the owner in his reply attempted to defend himself by saying his pastry chef is Asian, and that the back dining area is the preferred dining area during lunchtime. According to his line of reasoning, he is saying that the Asians got preferable treatment, because if you are to believe the blogger, 99% of all the diners in the main room (which was less than half full) were white. Anyways, it's not really worth getting tussled over, and I wouldn't have even though much of it as per my initial post regarding equal treatment, but I just had to bring this up because I'm demanding to be treated like a first citizen in response to Kate.

I wonder if this person or any of you actually ask for better seating or complain?
I do all the time. If I get crappy seating, I'll ask for better. If I sit down and I want to be moved, I'll ask. And it's worked out in the end.
I've only felt discriminated against when I've gone to Korean restaurants in Midtown, K-Town, by my OWN f*cking people.
So you go figure.

much a do about nothing. the blogger is stirring the proverbial "melting" pot but i would be interested in learning how the restaurant came to the conclusion which names were Asian? seems to suggest they all paid with credit which is not the stereotypically asian.
